Serving the local community for 125 years…
The Cottage Homes were founded on 21 May, 1881, when the Sergison Trust conveyed Church Field on the west side of Cuckfield Churchyard to Miss Mary Frances Maberly, daughter of a former Vicar of Cuckfield.
She acquired the land for the construction of the line of three cottages we know as The Cuckfield Cottage Homes, and a year later the Homes were ready to receive their first residents.
The Homes were officially opened by a Service of Dedication
held in Holy Trinity Church Cuckfield
on 12th July, 1882. Click here to see a PDF facsimile of the 1882 Order of Service for the Dedication of the Cottage Homes

Originally intended for aged and infirm communicants of the Church of England resident in the ecclesiastical Parish of Cuckfield, the Deed was updated with the help of the Charity Commission on 31st January, 2007. The Trust has six flats offering independent living for residents from within the whole Deanery of Cuckfield and of all Christian denominations, although preference will continue to be given to Cuckfield residents.
