Cuckfield Village Show
Welcome to the 2007 Cuckfield "Village" Show.
The event will be taking place on Saturday 8 September from 2pm - 4pm at Cuckfield Park. Admission will be £1 for adults and free for children. There will be a raffle, auction, refreshments and a brass band as well as the opportunity to view all the exhibits.
Schedules are now available and have been delivered to all Cuckfield Society Members. Further copies are available from Wealden Stores and Change of a'Dress although all details, rules and a copy of the entry form can be found on this website.
The show is open to all ages and all abilities; it is not just for horticulturists! The Show’s organisers want to attract villagers who grow fruit & vegetables to eat; flowers to make their homes and gardens look attractive, who bake for pleasure, who enjoy flower arranging, photography, painting and handicrafts. Prizes are given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions in each class. There will also be a "Best in Section" awarded within each of the 5 adult sections. Points are allocated for these positions and the exhibitor with the most points will be awarded a cup, kindly donated by Bryan & Sue Mayou who are also hosting the event. It is unlikely that you will come away from the show empty handed!
Please read carefully the few simple show rules which follow.
- Please study the list of classes and make your entries as soon as possible using the form which can be downloaded here.
- Applications for entry and payment must be received by one of the committee (see below) no later than midday on Wednesday 5th September.
- Entry fees are 30p per class for adult classes & 20p per class for junior classes.
- Why not attempt to win the Best in Show Cup by entering as many classes as possible?
- Entries are on a personal basis. Items which are the work of more than one person may not be entered (with the exception of the horticultural classes, but entries must be made in one name only).
- All horticultural exhibits must be the bona fide property of, and grown by, the exhibitor.
- In the Craft, Art & Photography classes, exhibitors must be amateurs, i.e. they perform their art/craft purely as a hobby and not for financial gain.
- We would like to encourage youngsters to enter the adult classes, so the Junior age limit is under 13 years on the day of the Show.
- 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes of 50p, 30p & 20p respectively will be awarded in each class. If entries are not considered by the judges to be of a suitable standard not all prizes may not be awarded.
- A prize of £1 will also be awarded to the best 1st prize winner in each adult section. Exhibitors in the junior classes will receive a small prize for each entry.
- Participation is restricted to exhibitors who are or have been residents of Cuckfield Parish or who work in the village. For the Junior section only it is open to children who attend school or pre-school in the village.
- The marquee will be open from 9.30 am on the morning of the show and ALL EXHIBITS MUST BE IN PLACE BY 11am when everyone except for the Show Officials and Judges will be asked to leave so that judging may take place. The judges’ decision will be final.
- Vases in the horticultural classes will be provided and must be used for classes 28 - 36 inclusive.
- Cookery items should be displayed on suitable plates/dishes etc and covered with cling film. Please ensure that dishes are properly cooked, stored and refrigerated where appropriate as all items will be tasted by the judge.
- All ordinary care will be taken of exhibitors’ property, but no responsibility can be accepted for any loss or damage.
- Exhibits not intended for auction are to be removed between 3.45 and 4pm when the auction will take place.
