The Cuckfield Society is looking to fill its Membership Secretary position, which is currently vacant. The role is an important one within the Cuckfield Society. As well as being on the general committee and thus involved in the diverse agenda of the Society, the Membership Secretary helps to market the Cuckfield Society to new and existing members. In addition, the Membership Secretary manages the membership database and tracks annual subscription payments by members, following up on exceptions. The Membership Secretary also files an annual Gift Aid return for the Society. You will need to have access to a computer and a basic knowledge of Excel. A full handover and support will of course be available. This is a great way to get to know our membership and the village. An historical novel the starts in Cuckfield
I posted ,on this website, details of my first novel that was published in hardback by Book Guild Publishing after publication in 2012. The novel "A Journey of Ascent: A Family Saga" tells the story of a real family that lived in Cuckfield in the mid 1600's and they then moved to Rusper and the to Newdigate. There appears to be some evidence that Charles Dickens met my GG Grandfather on the coach in Bath. Then Sam Weller is mentioned as a character in PIckwick Papers. I am detailed on 20+ websites in Europe and the USA. My second book "Signarures and Sacraments:A Family Saga" is also available in hardback and on loads of websites as well. Mitchell Ancestry
I have discovered that a huge number of my ancestors came from Cuckfield and would be grateful for any information, leads or contacts which will help me with my genealogical project. My G grandmother was Emma Mitchell and we go back as far as Samuel Mitchell b. 1747 and Anne Streeter/Streater, his wife. Another relative was postmaster, Relieving Officer and Registrar; the widow became the postmistress after his death. Names which appear in my ancestry are Greening, Picknell, McGeorge, Holford, to name but a few. Residences include The Rosery, The Post Office and properties in the lane behind the church.
