Core Strategy

The draft Core Strategy contains:

  • the vision for Mid Sussex to 2026
  • Core policies on general issues including the environment, settlement pattern, affordable housing, gypsies and travellers, town centres, shopping, employment, rural issues, community facilities, infrastructure and energy
  • Housing strategy and broad locations for development for sites capable of accommodating in excess of 250 dwellings

The following are some extracts from the draft Mid Sussex Core Strategy taken from MSDC's website:

3.0 - Issues, Problems and Challenges for Mid Sussex

  1. The need to protect and enhance an attractive and healthy built and natural environment that supports sustainable lifestyles and manages the causes and impacts of climate change
  2. The need to provide the amount, mix and tenure of housing in the right place to contribute towards the creation of cohesive and safe communities
  3. The need to support a healthy and vibrant economy by revitalising the town centres, protecting and improving existing employment areas and providing new employment areas
  4. The need to ensure that new development is accompanied by necessary and timely infrastructure to build sustainable communities
  5. The need to support and enhance rural communities; and in particular to provide affordable housing for local people.

4.0 - The Spatial Vision for Mid Sussex

By 2026 we will expect to see:

The existing settlement pattern retained, where new development in and around the towns and villages has enhanced their distinctive character, including the historic buildings, and retained clear gaps between the settlements;
