Cuckfield Dramatic Society is a thriving village theatre group that forms a lively part of village social life and puts on four or more different shows per year (usually in the Queen’s Hall).
Upcoming shows are listed on their website, as well as auditions and you can follow them on Facebook or Twitter.
As one reviewer said: "Their big-heartedness is growing their membership and their accomplished performances fill the seats.”. Why not consider getting involved on stage, backstage or front of house?
In October 2019 CDS presents not one but two “Comedies of Class“!
CDS has built a strong reputation for high quality dramatic or comedy productions and more recently has included music and dance as well. Its performances are always thoroughly enjoyed by the wider village.
A registered charity, (reg 1051485) CDS aims to bring the local community ”quality performances of drama and other performing arts”. In addition to its productions it organises social activities and club nights for entertainment or education in the performing arts.
A friendly and welcoming group it has members from Cuckfield and beyond and is always keen to encourage new potential members, with chances to act in or help in in other ways with performances and the society’s wider involvement in the village, including ISOC and CuckSoc events.
There are usually two major play performances a year (four nights usually during the May and October half-term holidays) the two night February Frolics and the newer musical extraveganza Christmas Cabaret have offered a popular mix of entertainment and food. Their latest new show format was a Murder Mystery Dinner, organised with Cuckfield and Lindfield Rotary club in support of Sussex charities.
Autumn 2016's major production was the award winning play On Golden Pond, a heartwarming and funny tale of family relationships that received high praise from all who saw it.
June 2017 saw the arrival hilarious comedy Bridge To Farce - a saucy tale of very mixed pairs when some card players get confused with those looking for a different sort of game! This proved such a sucess that the show weas reprised just two months later and taken "On Tour" to the Players Theatre in Hurstpierpoint where every night was a sell out!
With the number of active members increasing we hope to continue to expand the type and number of shows we produce! And whether you want to watch, take part or help behind the scenes you'll find CDS a friendly and lively part of village life!
